This online course, delivered through the Biochar Academy, equips entrepreneurs, farmer collectives, investors, and rural development professionals with the practical skills to build viable biochar enterprises. It is designed for learners in countries actively producing or adopting biochar and participating in carbon markets.

The curriculum moves from foundations to execution: biochar science and pyrolysis technology; feedstock sourcing and biomass aggregation; production system selection; quality testing and certification; and a dedicated module on formulating biochar-based fertilizers and navigating their regulatory approval. Learners also explore diversified applications — from water treatment to construction materials — before entering the commercial core of the course: how biochar generates carbon credits, how to work with standards like Puro.earth and India’s CCTS, and how to build a revenue-stacking business model.

The course closes with financial planning, policy navigation, and a capstone in which each learner produces an investment-ready feasibility study and business plan for their own venture.
